Compilation of early Brahm releases. Track 3 previously unreleased.

An 80’s hip-hop fiend, Brahm (born Chaz Barber) dove fully into producing in 1993 purchasing an ASR-10 sampling keyboard (used by notables including RZA and EL-P among others). Finding his inner voice, Brahm created engaging and head-nodding soundscapes. Utilizing dusty drum samples, warm analog guitar, keys and effects, the result fits snugly in the late 90’s and early 2000’s instrumental area code of artists such as DJ Shadow, Prefuse 73, Buck 65, Fat Jon and RJD2.

Though he crafted and recorded hundreds of track, Brahm’s released output was limited to two full-length albums. These included his 2002 debut A Thousand Curves which also had guitar contributions from Cinca. He followed this up with Built To Be Brought Down on Lujo Records in 2005. The latter also featured contributions from Nathan Burke (Frodus, The Out Circuit) as well as Rachel Burke from (from Dischord Records Beauty Pill) on Vocals.

After Cinca (who also runs Swedish Columbia) started working with similar-minded blip-hop artist, El Huervo a few years ago, he became excited to release Brahm material. Reaching out, Cinca helped inspire Brahm to pull the ASR-10 out of retirement and start making music again.

This Selections album will be followed shortly by an unreleased Brahm instrumental album of early B-sides and then a new album for 2016!

"Escalator" gives me vague memories of my childhood, the innocence of everyday life. "Burn" makes me think about memories, and the fear of forgetting them. "Too late" reminds me of the different stages that I went through, of those transitions that we don't realize that things change so much, until it's too late to realize that those stages are left behind. "Whimp" Reminds me how hectic life can be, and that the only way for this to end is to die. Sayyata
